“Do not become weary in well-doing, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9
What a timely passage for us during such a strange season! We are following all the proper protocols, knowing that we are not immune to the virus, but doing what we know to do with diligence and trusting God with the rest. It can be exhausting
As I reflected on how inconvenient this year has been, a client expressed his gratitude for all that Phoenix Rescue Mission has done for him. As he spoke, listing how our program has completely changed the trajectory of his life by helping him further his education, connecting him to upgraded healthcare, and refocusing his priorities through the counseling and teaching he had received, he began to tear up. Then he said something that I won’t forget: “This year has been the best year of my life!”
How many of us have told ourselves, “2020 is the worst year ever!”, and yet, sitting across from me was a man who found hope, sobriety, a renewed family relationship, a clear mind, rebuilt credit, promise of a sustainable job and new friendships during that year. I was humbled by the reminder that this is why we do what we do.
So, let’s stay focused on the mission. God will renew our strength! May we all in some way, as we look to the Lord, be able to say, “Thank you God for this year!”
